Side Effects of Semi-Annual Contraception
Side effects to the semi-annual pills
There are certain birth control pills that allow
one to have a period less often. Blood clots, disorientation, nausea, cramping
and sweating are all side effects associated with this type of pill. It can
also cause jaundice, shoulder pain and lumps in the breast tissue. Vaginal
discharge and itching are other common side effects for this form of birth
control.
Condoms Side Effects
Condoms can be made of different types of materials
and these materials can cause an allergic reaction in some. Both women and men
can be allergic to latex, and after being used during a sexual encounter,
irritation can occur. The chemicals used in the manufacturing process can call
the penis to become inflamed. In women, it can causes irritation to the vaginal
area. Generally, itching and burning between partners is associated with an
allergic reaction.
Additionally, condom breakage can increase the
chances of pregnancy.
Side effects of Depo Provera Shot
Women on Depo Provera may experience irregular
bleeding as a side effect. This side effect is common and considered to be
“normal”. Blood clots are another side effect and this is referred to as deep
vein thrombosis. Nausea, depression, mild anxiety and changes in appetite are
other less common side effects. Hair loss and abnormal hair growth are also
rare symptoms associated with the Depo Provera shot. The shot can cause a rash
or alter the appearance of the skin, making it spotty in appearance.
NuvaRing Side Effects
The NuvaRing can cause vaginal secretions and
possible infection. Women using the NuvaRing are also likely to experience
symptoms like nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, skin rash and hair loss.
Weight changes can also occur in women using this form of contraception. Some
women can gain weight, while others lose weight due to a change in appetite.
Abdominal cramps, bloating and headaches are other NuvaRing side effects.
Side effects to the birth control patch
The birth control patches can cause similar side
effects as other forms of contraception. Depression, migraines, nausea, breast
lumps, irregular bleeding and blood clots in women are common side effects.
Some women may experience an allergic reaction that causes a rash or hives when
used. Or side effects include chest pain, a rise in blood sugar, changes in
vision, jaundice, high blood pressure and difficulty breathing.
Women evaluating contraception methods will likely be
matched to the pill most suitable for their health. Most of the contraceptive
methods have similar side effects. Researching the various side effects with
pills and discussing them with a physician may make the selection process
easier. All birth control methods have risks associated with them.
