Birth Control Shot Side Effects:
The birth control shot is a
contraceptive injection used to prevent unwanted pregnancy. The injection is
composed of the female hormone progesterone that is injected in the upper arm,
thigh or in the buttocks to prevent pregnancy. This is given once every month
or once in every three months to inhibit the process of ovulation.
When it comes to shots,
the birth control brands list is very short. Till date
only two brands of birth control injections have been introduced, Lunelle and
Depo-Provera, both of which have been developed in the United States. Lunelle
contains a combination of two female hormones, estrogen and progesterone.
However, this injection is currently unavailable in the market. The other
Depo-Provera contains the hormone progesterone and is believed to be 100%
effective in terms of preventing pregnancy.
However, these shots are not desirable for all women. To some it may just result in short term side-effects but in others birth control shot side effects can be undesirable. Like other birth control side effects.
birth control shots also have its list of side effects like:
§ Irregular bleeding
§ Weight gain
§ Depression
§ Nausea
§ Headache
§ Tenderness in breast
§ Hair loss
§ Abdominal pain
§ Mood changes
§ Seizure
§ Undesired hair growth
In the earlier days, women used to completely rely on oral contraceptive pills like Levlen, Desogen, Loestrin and Kariva. Out of these brands, loestrin 24 is most widely used for its effectiveness. Nowadays, people have started switching over to injections staying tuned to the latest technologies.
However, when Loestrin 24 side effects are
compared with the Depo-Provera side effects, there is not much a difference.
The switch over to injection certainly is attributed to the fact that the long
term side effects are drastically reduced in case of injections.
