What Is Kundalini Meditation About?
Let’s be direct:
Kundalini meditation is about achieving the bliss of enlightenment. It is about
awakening the so-called Kundalini energy (in Ancient Sanskrit language it means
“serpent”) that lies in the base of the spine. It is spiritual, latent,
mystical energy, and needs long period of regular kundalini meditation before
the “serpent” arises through lower chakras and reaches the Crown chakra to
cause the dramatic change in the consciousness, i.e. enlightenment.
Let us be direct
again: Kundalini meditation shouldn’t be performed without been introduced and
controlled by an experienced master. The premature blast of Kundalini energy
can be dangerous for unprepared practitioners and cause a total mental
confusion. This is why kundalini meditation should be performed with years
before the final enlightenment happens in a safe way.
What Master Says
on Kundalini Meditation?
Here’s what the famous spiritual teacher Maher Baba says on Kundalini: “Kundalini is a latent power in the higher body. When awakened it pierces through six chakras or functional centers and activates them. Without a master, awakening of the kundalini cannot take any one very far on the Path; and such indiscriminate or premature awakening is fraught with dangers of self-deception as well as misuse of powers.
The kundalini enables man consciously to cross the lower planes and
it ultimately merges into the universal cosmic power of which it is a part, and
which also is at times described as kundalini… The important point is that the
awakened kundalini is helpful only up to a certain degree, after which it
cannot ensure further progress. It cannot dispense with the need for the grace
of a Perfect Master.”
Kundalini
Meditation Involves Chakras and Energetic Channels
Ok, now let’s see how kundalini meditation works. Don’t
expect awakening of this “energy of enlightenment” if you practice only walking meditation, for example, and not regularly
(thought, there are cases of spontaneous Kundalini awakening in situations with
extreme emotions engaged). If you have a dilemma how to meditate deeply, and you are already in an advanced
phase as meditator, you can maybe try kundalini meditation, but keep in mind to
have supervision by somebody more advanced than you.
The awakening of
Kundalini serpent happens through the two main energetic channels for spiritual
energy in the spine: ida and pingala. Chakras are also involved. During months
and years of regular meditation, all chakras become clean and powerful enough
to stimulate the awakening.
Kundalini
meditation causes a final enlightenment as a kind of spiritual illumination
inside the Crown chakra, when the consciousness becomes aware of the divinity
of the life and existence in the universe. It is an ultimate experience, and
not everyone can achieve it.
Two Approaches
Kundalini is
energy of infinite creative intelligence and is out of the manipulations by the
ego. It is the “path of the surrender”. There are two approaches of achieving
this ultimate state of consciousness and spiritual development. The first one
is by means of a system of regular meditations, visualizations, and practices
that would prep ear the mind-body-system for the final achievement. It is the
active approach.
The passive
approach is named Shactipat, and it doesn’t consider the surrender approach and
specific kundalini meditation. Instead, the enlightenment is being transferred
from a person who has experienced kundalini awakening to the one who doesn’t.
We, of course, suggest the first, active approach, as meditation isn’t only
about enlightenment.
